Here's the Story (of a Lovely Lady)!

I know it has been a while, but I do have a fairly good excuse because our little Baby Reid is finally here!

I worked Sunday morning and afterwards went grocery shopping. I noticed that the more I walked the more I had contractions. Of course I had been having braxton hicks contractions for weeks. They would come and go, be very light and I never really thought much of them. That afternoon Jason and I went for a nice brisk walk. I was having some contractions again but no pattern and after sitting down they pretty much went away. I was a little bummed but figured Reidstad would come at his own time.

Around 10pm  I remember telling Jason that I did not think Reidstad was going to be coming anytime soon. Literally a minute or two later I felt something - my water had broke! I was completely shocked.

Jason called the hospital and they told me to take a shower and come in within the hour but not to rush.

We arrived at the hospital around 11pm and were immediately brought to the Maternity Ward. I was hooked up on all types of monitors and found out I was already 5 centimeters dilated...when did that happen? I was not really having any contractions, my pain level was about a 1 at this time so, I went to sleep. The nurse came in ever 30 minutes to check on my progress and make sure Reidstad was doing well. Jason was on the couch snoring!

Around 5am I started to get more contractions and that is when the nurse talked me into getting an epidural. I waited maybe 30 minutes and received my first epidural. I felt good. I remember my eye lids wanted to close. I was pretty loopy. I believe that around this time they started me on pitocin/oxytocin because I was not dilating as quickly as they would have liked. Slept more I did.

At 2:59 pm our little Reidstad was born. They put him immediately on my chest and Jason cut the cord. I was quite impressed because I held Baby Reid for about 30 minutes before they took him to clean him up and give him back to me.

When we told people that we did not have a name picked out, we meant it literally. Jason grabbed his cell phone about 10 minutes after Baby Reid was born and we went through the 5 names that we had picked out and went through each one of them. That is when we decided on Daniel. We just both liked Daniel and we still do.

My sister, Aunt Nicole, was the first to hold Daniel Jason Reid at 4:30 pm. She still cannot believe she was holding him only an hour and a half after he was born! My parents came a few hours later, bad weather made their trip fairly miserable. Did I mention that a minute after Daniel was born a nurse came into my room and said that my Mom had called and I should give her a call back? My Mom claims she had some sixth sense and knew that he was being born (/sigh).
