Shop 'Til You Drop (a/k/a Black Friday)!

As all of you may, or may not (if you don’t, lucky you), know, Black Friday is the day when stores have “huge” sales and make so much money they are able to go from the red (negative) to the black (positive). For the last three years I have been getting up the Friday after Thanksgiving earlier and earlier every year. If I were to keep up the tradition, I would not actually get to sleep Thanksgiving night!! I think it is ridiculous, and yes, I used to be one of “those” getting up at 4:00 am to run to Kohl’s, Macy’s, JcPenny’s and/or Best Buy to get this “great deal” only to see a better deal a week before Christmas. I would see the better deal and think “well, my gift is already wrapped with the gift receipt wrapped with it and I can’t seem to locate my receipt in the stack of 100 thrown in a drawer.” Oh, the wonderful Christmas season!

This year, however, I was not going to be one of “those” people. You know the ones I am talking about. The crazy men and women that get up, right out of bed, no combing their hair, probably not brushing their teeth…as soon as the store opens they literally push you down and start running through the aisles like madmen/madwomen. After you make your purchase you sit in your car thinking, why do I even bother with shopping on Black Friday, never again will I do it. Then next year comes and it is the same routine, except instead of getting up at 6:00 am, you are up at 5:00 am and you are so tired it makes you crabby and that can lead to trouble, with a capital T!!

Anyways, this year I told myself that I am on strike from spending all my hard earned money and for stores making me get up at 4:00 am to get these great deals. Not going to do it this year. So, I did not get up at 4:00 am, no, I slept in until 9:00 am. Yes, I sleep a very long time, but I need my beauty rest, even though I still am not as beautiful as I want to be, well I better sleep more than 10 hours a night.

Anyways, where was I…I slept until 9:00 am, was able to take a shower, drink some cappuccino, and watch the News showing “those” people that were camping outside Best Buy since Wednesday night…I can’t even make this up!! My mom and sister came over and we headed out to Macy’s. Okay, so I know what you are thinking…after my whole schpeel about not getting up early and being on strike…yada, yada, yada…well once it is in your blood you can’t get it out of you. I did not really have a list and did not really feel like shopping…I think my brain and blood were ready to shop but my heart wasn’t in it. I wanted to celebrate the reason for Christmas, why we have Christmas, not make Christmas into a big material holiday. I will admit, I bought a few things (I won’t include the shampoo and toothpaste I bought) I bought two items in total, one item for my dad, and one item for Jason.

I think I lost my holiday spirit when we had to circle Macy’s for 45 minutes and stalk people so we could park. Yes, it took us 45 minutes to park. The worst part was that we only stayed 30 minutes at the mall. (The fun part was stalking people to their cars, well, it was funny for mom, Nicole and I!!

Next year, I do not think I will be getting up at 4:00 am, I would much rather sleep in and enjoy the season. I like going shopping for the ones I love, but I would rather do it on a weekday than on Black Friday.
