Baby Reid's Shower!
I'm pregnant. That is the excuse card that I'm going to lay down tonight for being so late in blogging. Hey, I don't get to use these cards a lot in my life, so you'll just have to deal with it!

Thank you to whomever took this wonderful picture of my big belly! I'm told that some day I will be very happy for these belly pictures and maybe SOMEDAY I will be :)

I remember back in September getting a call from Sarah saying that she, Margaret and Laura wanted to throw us a baby shower and that we had to get our butts in gear and register because the baby shower would be November 5th. We weren't too worried because we thought November would never get here so fast.
We ran out to Target and Babies R Us, looked at the thick booklet they gave us of 'essential' baby items we just NEEDED to register for and went to work. Well, after many weeks of looking at those 'essential' items, we decided that most are not actually essential and deleted quite a bit. I think back to many, many, many years ago when we were born and what 'essential' items did our parents have? They had cloth diapers and maybe a car seat and that was about it.

Well, as people say, time really does fly because before we knew it we were driving to Bob & Margaret's for a baby shower. Not just a baby shower but a baby shower for the baby that we were going to be having in February, the baby that I was carrying. Even today it still does not quite feel real.
Friday night, Jerry & Carole drove up and took us out to The Saint Paul Grill for a wonderful supper. We ordered a slice of carrot cake to share and it was so good. I just love a good carrot cake and that was one of the best I've ever had.

After supper with Jerry & Carole, Sarah showed up on our doorstep. Poor Sarah had to work and drive all the way up at night. Kevin, Connor and Mary stayed home since Sarah was just coming up for the night. We missed them lots! We had a fun visit and then it was time for bed. We're old now so we can't stay up too late. I never thought I'd become a morning person, and although I'm not that great in the morning I have been so tired at night. There have been some nights I fall asleep at 7pm only to have Jason wake me up later to go to bed and I sleep until the morning.
Saturday morning came and off we went to Baby Reid's baby shower. I'm pretty sure Jason and I looked at each other a million times and asked "Can you believe we're going to a baby shower for OUR baby?" More importantly, can you believe we're having a baby?
Jason decided to have a co-ed baby shower. I think he wondered what all the fuss was that we women have to do so much work for these things and wanted to know what the secret is concerning the showers. I have been Baby Shower CEO of the Lundell baby showers so it was very odd for me not to do anything at this baby shower.
Margaret, Laura & Sarah did such a wonderful job. I really cannot even put into words how much the baby shower meant to us. I know that the husbands were also co-hosts but I have a sneaking suspicion that those three did most of the work!
Bill and Jason chatting away eating the good food. They look deep in thought. Do you think they are cheating and discussing the Baby Trivia game and what items they were supposed to remember? I thought so too.
The food was so good. Laura made kick-butt panini's. She made them so that the meat would be hot. You see, when you get pregnant you are not supposed to eat deli meat because it can have a bacteria that can kill the baby. And OF COURSE you are much more likely to get the very very bad bacteria when you are pregnant. It is difficult not having any deli meat. It seems as though now that I'm pregnant and deli meat is banned that everywhere I go the option is deli meat or tuna. Unfortunately I can't have a whole lot of tuna either.

We played three games, which I thought were pretty difficult (and remember I have put on 6 baby showers and have done all the games for them, so I know what I'm talking about!). I didn't realize how well Megan can remember every little detail of a baby item. I held up the baby keys and she said there were six of them and sure enough she was correct! If my memory serves me correct, out of the three games one woman won and two men won. I think the men all did a little homework to make sure they would give the women a little challenge!
After our little bellies were full, well little bellies minus mine (because the pictures show my big belly, there is no hiding that!), we opened up Reidstad's gifts. This quilt was made by Bev with the help of Bob. It is so gorgeous, I wish I was 1/16th as gifted as Bev. We need to buy a quilt rack to hang in the baby's room to display this.
Mom was my personal helper at the shower. I made her take the pictures, but since she's in many of them I'm pretty sure someone else picked up her slack. So, thank you to whoever picked up the camera and took some shots! She is so excited to be a Grandma. When I opened their card and saw Grandma and Grandpa Norstad written inside of it I actually thought of my Grandma and Grandpa Norstad, then I realized that they are now the Grandma and Grandpa Norstad, that will take a little getting used to.
I felt really badly ripping this gift open. Sharon or maybe Joe, but I think Sharon, cut the letters B A B Y out and glued them to the paper. This is a pack n play, which will come in really handy especially when we travel down to Iowa.
Here is Jason with Reidstad's little hunting outfit. I'm sure even at 12 months he'll be a little too young to go hunting but maybe he can dress up as a support to his Daddy getting a deer. Jason has already been talking about what age Baby Reid can go out and he can teach him to hunt! That would make me a little nervous but I've been out hunting with Jason and he keeps you in check when you are carrying a rifle.
We received so many gifts that we really need nothing else! After I opened the first gift which was the never ending bag from Michael, Bill, Larry, Margie and Erin I thought we were done. Everyone was way too generous! I haven't checked our registry but I'm pretty sure there is nothing left. Although Baby Reid has 11 more weeks to go before he gets here, we have everything to keep him happy if he arrives a little early! We got a swing, bouncer, high chair, pack n play, mattress, sheets, mattress protector and sheet protectors, books, bottles, boppy, glow worm, wash clothes, towels, quilt, outfit.....so much that it would take up this entire blog!
The men did have fun at the shower and even had the 'man den' to go to in case they were a little overwhelmed!
Here is little Evelyn (Evie). She is such a happy little girl! Can you believe that she was the only child at the shower out of 9 kids?

Thank you to everyone for making Baby Reid's Shower so memorable!
