Reid Christmas!
We celebrated Christmas with Jerry, Carole, Kevin, Sarah, Connor and Mary the weekend of December 9th to the 11th. It was a weekend earlier than normal because Jason and I had the VFW kids Christmas December 17th to attend. Jason had to attend because he is the Junior Vice Commander and he actually put on the Christmas party. (Don't get me going on how greedy parents can be when their kids get free Christmas presents. Wow, I hope I never ever end up like that!)
Jason and I were lucky enough to head down on Friday, December 9th to stay with Jerry and Carole. I am still in training at Ecolab and training is mandatory and so you cannot take time off, but since training is taking longer than normal, due to the fact that they've hired quite a bit of people and they are all in different stages of training, they actually let me take half day. I was so relieved because I really didn't want to have to drive at night and stay at a hotel in Cedar Falls. I looked into hotels, just in case, and I couldn't believe that a one night stay was $119! I mean, how many tourists go to Cedar Falls? I don't think we paid that much when we stayed in San Antonio, Texas.
This was Baby Reid's first road trip and he did a great job! He didn't fuss at all, so I would call it very successful indeed. Of course, it is difficult to hear him when he isn't born yet and I have a feeling that next years Christmas might be a little different story.
We arrived at around 7pm, just after Kevin, Sarah, Connor and Mary arrived. That night went so fast. We were able to scarf down some yummy chili and head to bed. I think Jason and I were exhausted. Funny how sitting for 7 hours can exhaust someone!
Saturday morning we had our Christmas. It is so much fun to watch how excited Connor gets. Mary gets a little excited but in a year or two she'll be just as excited as Connor. Connor couldn't wait to open his presents. He was very patient though for an almost four year old. The cutest part was when we went to get the presents under the tree and bring them into the family room. Connor and Mary loved carrying all the presents over! Mary even carried a present about her same size over!
A Cabbage Patch Doll. I remember having one that looked like me. Didn't every girl used to have a Cabbage Patch Doll. They still even smell like baby powder.

Connor isn't looking so I think it is my turn to play with his dog! I'm pretty sure it didn't take him long to see what his sister was doing and soon the dog was back to his rightful owner :)

Hmmm, clothes? Okay on to the next gift! I don't think any of us actually appreciated opening up a present of clothes until we were maybe in our late teens or early 20's! (Sarah tells me that it is actually the parents that really appreciate the clothes, more than the kids.)
This was a framed Cold War Certificate and medal that Kevin, Sarah, Jason and I were able to obtain for Jerry for his service. It turned out really nice.
Baby Reid received some presents too! Jerry and Carole helped our video fund. Jason can't wait to get a video camera so he can do his little techy thing. He told me recently he's going to do a documentary style recording when I'm in labor. I can't wait for that! I also can't wait to show everyone that when I'm in labor I will probably have a sailors mouth, but I'll just blame that on marrying someone from the Army :)
Kevin and Sarah gave Baby Reid a sound machine, the cutest little pajamas, bottles, clothes hangers, diapers and much needed easy to make food when the little bugger finally arrives.
Saturday afternoon Kevin, Sarah, Connor and Mary went to the mall to meet Santa. Apparently, the kids prefer just to open the presents from Santa and not actually have to meet him or actually sit on his lap! Oh, the horror! I, personally, think the best pictures are of kids screaming their heads off while sitting on Santa's lap.
Saturday night we had our big Christmas meal. It was delicious, as always. I think I ate too much, as always. The worse part about Christmas meals is that you are so stuffed that you really don't want to do the dishes. It would be great if one year a little elf would come and do the dishes for us! I can keep dreaming, can't I? I remember at Grandma Norstad's that we always had to do the dishes before Santa would come. It didn't seem so bad back then because you were just so excited for Santa.
Sunday morning came way too fast. It really didn't even feel like we had any time to visit with everyone. It is always so much fun visiting with the Reid/Corizzo clan but time flies when you're having fun...and time really flew this time.
It is hard to believe that the next time we see them we'll be calling them Grandpa and Grandma Reid, Uncle Kevin, Aunt Sarah, Cousin Connor and Cousin Mary.
