Happy Hallmark Day!

I, personally, call it Valentine’s Day but Jason calls it a Hallmark Holiday! I am okay with that, as long as he gives me a card and some chocolate ;)

The first Valentine’s Day we were together, we had been dating about three months, Jason tried to make a reservation at one of our favorite restaurants, but they were completely booked. He says he tried many different restaurants around St. Paul and was so embarrassed to tell me that he could get in no where! I am sure he tried getting a reservation the day of, but that is another story. So, since we could not go out to eat Jason thought we should order Chinese from Grand Shanghi, I think that is the name, I always get confused though!! We had a nice meal and it has been our “tradition” since that day.

I say “tradition” because after that Valentine’s Day I made sure to make reservations! The following VD we went to the 321 Club which had really high reviews and I had to make reservations four months in advance to get in!! I was really dissappointed with the place. It is a small restaurant, all lit with candles and roses all over, very nice, but the tables were literally 10″ apart from one another. We could hear the people to our right and our lefts conversation! Plus, they only served from a VD menu, which was about 2-3 times the amount the food would normally be, and it was not that good!!! I think we spent about $150 there and were not pleased at all!

So, our third VD we figured we would go to The Lexington, they always have great food. I made the reservation and again they had a VD menu. The food was about 2-3 times the amount you would pay on February 13th or February 15th. Ridiculous I say. Of course, they did have a violin player that walked around the room to each table. Very romantic, and the food was excellent, as always. But again about $150 for our meal, and when we normally go to the Lex we pay about $80 (unless of course I go crazy and get lobster).

For our fourth and fifth VD we decided that we had just as good food from the Chinese place as we did from 321 or the Lex, so we decide to go the Chinese route again. Plus, then we can just relax at home and watch some romantic horror movies.

This year will be our sixth VD together! Wow, time really does fly. Is it just me, or is it hard to get up at 6:00am, get to work, come home and go out for a fabulous meal? Okay, that didn’t sound quite right, but after working on VD I did not want to get all dressed up to go out, maybe I am getting old?? So, this year we decided on Chinese again. There is this great little place about a mile away from our house that delivers for free! No more running to Grand Shanghi, try to find a place to park and all the hassle.

Even after all the Chinese I think I still will be able to scarf down a few of the Turtles that Jason bought for me. How sweet! (Okay, it is but he gets me the same thing every year, what is that saying? I guess he thinks “If it is not broke, why fix it”)

I hope you all had a Happy Valentine’s Day.
