Matthew's Birthday Party!

On October 20, 1978, a baby boy was born to Jarle and Debra Norstad at 7:30 p.m. Jarle was so excited to finally have a son! Fast forward to 2011 and my favorite brother and only brother, Matthew, turned 33.

The family always gets together for all our birthdays, so this year Matthew wanted us all to get together at Sol de Mexico in Cannon Falls (a/k/a the old Hardees). Nicole and I haven't been there since it was Hardees, probably 15 years ago! It really hasn't changed much but it is nice to see that Cannon now has a Mexican restaurant!

When we were kids we had a paper route. It wasn't our choice, we were forced to do it. It was a Saturday night/Sunday morning route delivering the Pioneer Press. Mom and Dad would drive and the kids would split up and have to run house to house delivering the papers while Mom and Dad drove down the block to pick us up. As our payment we were treated to biscuits and gravy at Hardees. I remember the biscuits and gravy being the best thing I have ever had to eat, but then again it might have been because I had been awake for 24 hours and just wanted to sleep. Then we would finally get to bed at 6 a.m. and sleep for a long time dreading the next Saturday night :) If this were to happen today, we probably could have sued our parents for non payment! Back in the day, you did things like this as a family (because we are so old I had to say 'back in the day').

After I typed this up, I realized that my parents got us to do quite a bit of things for food. Now don't get me wrong, we were fed like normal kids but as a reward we usually were taken out to eat. Not only the paper route but also going to Church. If we went to Church, which was usually the 8 a.m. service because my Dad insisted it HAD TO BE the 8 a.m. service (he liked to torture us with early morning stuff like this) we were then treated to Country Kitchen for breakfast. Of course, after Church we had to drive up to Hampton listening to his favorite radio show which was BORING. When we got to Hampton we picked up the paper (the metro Star Tribune is only delivered as south as Hampton) and then the kids could read the comics all the way to Country Kitchen.

Getting back to original post, we all met up at Sol de Mexico. Well, all but Jason. He and Glen had to go up North to set up their deer stand so he couldn't make it. (I missed you husband!)

We had such a good time. I love my family and would not trade them for the world! They are the funniest people and we always have a blast together. Dad, Mom, Matthew and I all ordered fajitas and Nicole ordered a burrito. Then we had FRIED ICE CREAM!! It was so good. Thank you Dad for picking up the tab.

I can't wait for Thanksgiving so we can all get together again, and include Jason. We eat lots and play games all day. It is such a fun time, no stress from shopping or hoping you bought someone a great gift. Just a fun time with family and food!

Happy Birthday Matthew! It is so hard to believe that all of us just keep getting older, year after year.

P.S. All five people in the pictures are related! I've heard I look like my Dad but that Nicole and Matthew really don't like look Mom or Dad (Dad says we all look like the milk man!).....what do you think?
