Christmas Eve!
Christmas Eve is already here and before we know it, it will be Christmas Day and then March…yes, time flies by. I love the holidays but they go so quickly, we just need to slow down during the holidays and really enjoy the reason for the season.
Typically on Christmas Eve we are invited to my mom’s side and every other year we are invited to my dad’s side. Usually Dawn & Scott host on the Lundell side (mom’s side) and Deb hosts the Norstad side(dad’s side). We had decided a few weeks earlier to stay at home, make a big meal, just the two of us and then head to midnight mass. We have been married for 3.5 years, hard to believe I know. What is even hardier to believe is that we started dating November 25, 2001, which makes it 6 years! Now that is insane! And yet we never have had a Christmas meal just the two of us, so we thought we would just have a nice quiet day, just the two of us.
I made ham (turkey seemed a little hard since this was my first big meal I have made but also because my parents gave us 1/2 a pig and we have a ton of ham in the freezier, they are so nice) green beans, corn, cheesy potatoes, 7 layer salad, pie and champagne…you don’t think there was enough food for 2? :)
We ate and soon after Jason went to the doctor, yes on Christmas Eve. He has been feeling really lousy since the weekend down in Iowa for Christmas. They gave him some mediciation so hopefully he starts to feel better.
We relaxed the rest of the night, even though I would not have minded opening one gift! Because of Jason’s “illness” we didn’t go to the midnight service, rather we checked Roseville Lutheran Church website, and I thought it said 7:00pm service was candlelight. We get there and it says the candlelight service was 9:00pm and midnight, I was a little upset. I remember going to midnight service when I was younger and I always loved when we lit our candles and would sing Silent Night with just the candles glowing.
We stayed and sang really nice songs, even though they left one out because it was running long, and there were two baptisms. The babies were so cute! I like the new pastor, he gave a really nice sermon. Sometimes I would daze off at sermons, mainly when I was younger, and never received the “message” that the pastor was giving to us. Maybe it comes with maturity or maybe it is just RLC has great pastors….could be both, really.
We did get home around 8:30pm and had a little piece of pie and now we have to go to sleep, need to rest up for Santa is coming tomorrow
