Movie Review for "The Happening"

[We warned you.] Click here for a link regarding the movie. Jason and I decided, at the last minute, to go see this movie on opening night. The tagline for this movie is "We've Sensed It. We've Seen The Signs. Now... It's Happening." I guess in order to advertise a movie you need to incorporate the past successful movies from the director, M. Night Shyamalan. "We've Sensed It" is referring to his first big box office film, Sixth Sense, i.e. "I see dead people" movie. "We've Seen The Signs" is referring to another big box office film by M. Night, "Signs" about the invasion of Aliens. I will admit those movies were really good, and although Jason will not agree with me, I also enjoyed The Village.

If you do not know about M. Night he is known for his big twists in movies. If you are waiting for a twist in The Happening, you will be waiting forever. The movie never really tells us what happened, it just promptly ends. You know it is a bad movie when people are cracking jokes throughout the movie and you laugh with them because the movie is so ridiculously elementary school, even though it was rated R. The plot really is way over the top. I would rent the movie so that you can really see how downhill M. Night is going with his movies and then the next time his movie comes out, you won't get sucked into spending money at the movie theatre.
